My First Printer review by DJK on 11/28/2017The Velleman was my first 3D printer I purchased 2 years ago. I've since added 15 other printers to my farm, but the Velleman will always be my first. Even with all of the other printers in use in my farm, there are still a handful of prints that only my Velleman can pull off due to it's direct drive hotend and precision movement.
I added a pulley-based dual leadscrew, K8203, RPi, and Light Ring. I had to print the upgrades to make it reliable enough to start my farming business.
I have around 8,000 hours against the machine, and it has paid for itself 25x in the prints I have sold off of it. It basically started the snowball that paid for my entire farm.
It is an Engineer's printer, and it is pricey compared to the newer models out there that produce prints ready for sale straight out of the box. In my opinion, the Velleman served it's purpose for it's time, but that has passed. -
Have to print a lot of parts yourself review by Page on 5/1/2017I've had the printer now for over 2 months and still have not gotten it to print. I've had to pay shipping on all repairs back to Velleman and some brackets have broken or were missing to begin with. Note with this add on that you need to have your printer working properly to even be able to put this together. Support has been helpful, but it's still been 2 months and I don't have a working 3d printer. Also, many of the instruction manuals are incomplete, which can lead to unknowingly putting things together incorrectly. Additionally, the 3d model files I was provided when the site were down were incorrect, so I've had to waste a bunch of filament without any working result.
